I need to begin by thanking Larry Dixon for giving me the opportunity to write my first On The Run. I was surprised when he asked me to do it, but, nonetheless, I was glad to have the chance to speak to the loyal NHRA fans, who have been great, welcoming me as I replace a legend like Dick LaHaie.
I'm also grateful to "Snake" [Don Prudhoimne], Larry, and the folks at Miller Brewing Co. for giving me the opportunity to be the crew chief for such a great operation. I'm lucky to be surrounded by a dedicated team owner, a champion driver, a driven and experienced crew of mechanics, and a dedicated sponsor that has been behind Larry for 12 seasons now.
Last fall, when "Dicko" [LaHaie] informed "Snake" and the team that he was going to retire, "Snake" promoted me from assistant crew chief. I think maybe he was a bit unsure at first, but I hope I have eased his nerves with the performance of the car. It had always been my goal to be a crew chief, but I was content to be the number-two guy as long as "Dicko" was willing to do this. His knowledge bank is immense, so I felt it was important to pick his brain for as long as possible...
