The Deal: Marking the latest acquisition in the Internet industry, The OpenTV Corp has announced that it will pay $2.1 billion to purchase Spyglass Inc. OpenTV, a maker of interactive-television software, is buying Spyglass to increase the breadth of its offerings in the high-speed arena, as well as for wireless connectivity. According to the terms of the transaction, Spyglass shareholders will receive 0.7236 OpenTV share For each share held. The deal values Spyglass at $122.28 a share, nearly twice as much as its closing price on the day before the acquisition was announced. After the news was disclosed, OpenTVshares rose $4, to $169.
