Orbital Software may have been around since 1995, but chances are you've only heard of the Edinburgh-based company in the very recent past. On July 1, the company opened its United States and western hemisphere headquarters in Framingham, and released a new software package two weeks later.
Robert Nilsson, Orbital's vice president of marketing, said the company got off to a much different start than would be expected, looking at the result today.
"The company was started as a consulting and custom software firm," he said. "But two years later, the founders realized they had real product potential. "Then the venture capital money started coming in and a product was born."
That product: Organik 3.0, a Web-based application which allows people to get expert answers to their questions.
The first Organik product was widely released in Europe in 1998, and didn't see much exposure on this side of the Atlantic. The latest version, however, is beginning to make the rounds of the States - and Orbital couldn't be happier.
