Keeping up with legislation, applications and new materials
Print professionals know more than the average citizen does when it comes to paper, that's for sure. But, there's a reason there are so many events and educational seminars within the industry-it never hurts to get a brief refresher.
That aid might come in the form of information on new materials and substrates, new applications you might not think of, legal developments to keep in mind and so on and so forth. And to think that paper itself is the perfect mouse trap and cannot be improved upon would be naive, wouldn't it? There is always room for enhancement, and we spoke with Brenon Savell, e-commerce marketing manager for Livingston, Mont.'s Printing For Less about that latitude.
Savell's area of expertise concerns environmental production and synthetic papers, areas that distributors should be paying close attention to, as eco-friendly initiatives are becoming more popular throughout the print industry and elsewhere.
Accepting synthetic
Saveli feels that, despite the environmental benefits of synthetic paper, many print professionals are skeptical of it, thinking it might be too good to be true. He says that can't be farther from the truth, though.
"It's more environmentally friendly than people give it credit for," Saveli said. "The first thing they think is, 'Oh, it's made from oil, just like everything else.' It's a petroleum product. From what I've heard, we get a little bit of pushback."
While people might hear "plastic" and recoil, it remains that plastics are easily recyclable. Though the original product might not be biodegradable or all-natural like traditional paper, you're setting yourself up for environmental benefits in the long run.
