North Largo, Fla.-based Paradyne Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: PYDN) has introduced a DSLAM it is calling "the next wave in video over broadband." The company claims its new GranDSLAM 4200 for IP networks can deliver enough bandwidth to multicast at least three streams of MPEG2 video, voice and data to each subscriber. The 4200IP uses ADSL2 to provide 12 Mbps of downstream bandwidth. It can also be deployed with ReachDSL 2.2, allowing to provide 2.2 Mbps symmetric DSL to customers on long or poor-quality loops. The platform is intended to provide carriers an easily managed entry point into the video-over-DSL market.
