While LAN-based fax servers will typically handle most sending tasks well, many offer only a limited ability to deal with Incoming facsimiles. Some of these limitations exist because there is no single standard for handling incoming faxes.
All three of the products that we examined--Alcom Corp.'s LanFax Redirector, Cheyenne Software, Inc.'s FAXserve and Intel Corp.'s NET SatisFAXtion--can receive, store and print Incoming faxes. They also allow users to manually route faxes to their intended recipients. Beyond this basic functionality, however, there are some noteworthy differences.
