Paul Evan Peters, executive director of the Coalition for Networked Information and member of ALA Council, died suddenly of an asthma attack November 18 while walking on a beach with his wife Rosemarie during a trip to Florida.
Heading CNI since he founded it in March 1990, he was highly respected in the library, information technology, and scholarly communities and sought common ground for many constituencies in order to develop global networked information resources. As recently as September, he saw the coalition move from the status of a sunset organization to one of an ongoing nature, where its essential role in the North American dialogue to advance scholarship and intellectual productivity was recognized.
