Abstract

Since 1989, Pearle Inc. has offered its employees a CIGNA Dental Health dental HMO. Under the CIGNA dental HMO, employees must select one specific dentist to provide care for the entire family. There is no employee copayment for preventive services and no annual or lifetime maximums. The Gwinnett County Public Schools has offered dental benefits for about 10 years. Gwinnett County started out with a self-funded indemnity plan and about 5 years ago added a dental HMO option through CIGNA. The indemnity dental plan requires a $50 deductible for basic and major restorative services, as well as 25% coinsurance for basic and 50% coinsurance for major restorative services.
