For better or worse, the Los Angeles Police Department always seems at the forefront of law enforcement activity. Whether it is at the forefront of criminal activity that they face each day, or the tactics and equipment that they utilize, the LAPD is consistently at the cutting edge. Such is the case with the newest piece of issued LAPD equipment, the Pelican 7060 flashlight.
The Pelican 7060 was developed over a two-year period as a joint effort between Pelican, senior staff officers of the police department, as well as members of the rank and file. The 7060 has all the features that one would want in a general purpose law enforcement tool and none that it does not need.
Producing a circuit-regulated 130 lumens for 90 minutes, the 3.7-volt Pelican Model 7060 flashlight is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery similar to those that are used in cell phones, laptop computers and other high-drain electronic devices. Of significant note is that the 7060 comes standard with multiple switching options built into the body of the light. Using both a side-mounted switch such as those that are common to other patrol-style flashlights as well as a tailcap-mounted switch similar to those found on high-end tactical lighting products, the Pelican unit is justly at home in either circumstance.
This light, which uses the newest generation LED to produce what is currently the best, and tightest beam available from an LED-based light source, is 8.65 inches in length and weighs in at a minimal 10.4 ounces.
