EMS company Pemstar Inc. is taking advantage of the slowdown in the U.S. economy to catch up on several supply chain projects.
Among them is implementation of a software tool that Pemstar expects will give it greater ability to see what's happening on the factory floor and distributing that information to OEMs that are clamoring for greater visibility.
The company decided last month to deploy applications from Datasweep Inc., San Jose, at all of its plants.
"The advantage we have during a downcycle is to roll out things we may not have time to do in [high-growth] times," said Christopher Towns, IT project manager at the Rochester, Minn., EMS provider.
