The Memphis-based law firm of Thomason, Hendrix, Harvey, Johnson & Mitchell is currently in discussions with The Hardison Law Firm about a merger that could potentially create the fourth-largest law firm in the Memphis market.
Thomason Hendrix senior partner Albert C. Harvey acknowledged that there have been talks going on between the two Downtown firms, but says no action has been taken and none is expected for at least a month.
"There have been some discussions (with Hardison) but we are not ready to make any announcements yet," Harvey says. "We're really not prepared to say anything at this point."
Hardison president David Cook also confirmed the talks, but referred all questions about the merger to Thomason Hendrix.
Currently with 32 attorneys listed on the firm's Web site, Thomason Hendrix's size places it among the area's top 10 largest firms. Thomason Hendrix ranked seventh in the Memphis Business Journal's 2003 list of the area's largest law firms.
The Hardison Firm currently lists 16 attorneys and placed 21st on the 2003 MBJ list. A merger between the two firms could potentially vault the resulting entity at almost 50 lawyers - squarely among the top four firms in the city.
