Denbies wine estate in Surrey is well worth a visit for any wine enthusiast, writes Dr Idango Adoki
What do you think Dornfelder, Reichensteiner and Schonburger are? Three German musketeers, street names in Munich or exotic sausages from Berlin? No idea? Well, I will tell you: like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Munier, they are grape varieties grown in England's largest vineyard.
Denbies wine estate on the outskirts of Dorking in Surrey lies on the south-facing slopes of the North Downs. The estate's 265 acres of vineyard form about 10 per cent of the UK's vine plantings, making it one of Europe's largest privately owned vineyards.
