KROGER BEGINS INTERNET
Computer-literate customers in Columbus, Ohio, can shop for groceries via the Internet. Kroger Co. has set up a World Wide Web site that allows customers to order more than 7,000 grocery items. Requests are filled at a store in Columbus and delivered for a nominal fee. Orders may be placed over the Internet, or via fax or phone. Also included on the web site: nutritional data on most grocery products, corporate information, and an interactive service area allowing customers to e-mail the chain. Eventually, the service may be extended beyond Columbus. The Web site address is http://www.foodcoop.com/kroger/.

Penney, have endorsed the National Retail Federation's "Statement of Principles on Supplier Legal Compliance." The retailers will require that suppliers comply with all applicable wage and hour laws, and that they will take action against those in violation of the laws. Actions can include canceling contracts.
