Sanford has signed on as a major sponsor of PGA golfer David Toms. Toms will carry a Sharpie golf bag and wear the Sharpie logo on the back of his headwear throughout the 1999 and 2000 PGA Tour schedules.
Sanford also sponsors Rocco Mediate on the PGA and Gary Player on the Senior Tour. Sherri Steinhauer, the 1998 British Women's Open champion and LPGA golfer is also a Sharpie player.
