European home network builders looking for an alternative to Wi- Fi or Ethernet have another option with the entry of Phonex Broadband into the European market. Phonex's Neverwire 14 QX-201 has received certification for sale in Europe. The device uses the HomePlug 1.0 standard that takes advantage of unused bandwidth in home electrical wiring to carry data and voice signals. The Neverwire 14 is a $129 box with power plug on one side and an RJ-45 Ethernet jack on the other. Users can simply connect a device to the box and plug it into the wall to create a home network with speeds up to 14 Mbps that can handle up to 16 NeverWire units. Phonex claims to be the first U.S. company to receive European certification for a powerline networking device.
