2008 will be a big year for three of the Pikes Peak Regional Transportation Authority's biggest projects.
Overpass construction for the Austin Bluffs Parkway and Union Boulevard interchange project is scheduled to begin during March. A contractor for work on Woodmen Road will be chosen this year, and design work and land acquisition for the Milton E. Proby Parkway projects will begin this year.
"We are making good progress on all the PPRTA projects," said Ronald Mitchell, director of Public Works for the City of Colorado Springs.
The PPRTA was created during 2004 and uses a 1-cent sales tax to help pay for transportation capital and maintenance projects.
Austin Bluffs overpass
The $35 million Austin Bluffs and Union interchange project calls for an overpass at Austin Bluffs. Foundation work will begin next month.
"In March we are setting the girders, which means giant cranes over the top of Union," said Robin Kidder, roadway engineering manager for the City of Colorado Springs.
