A stitch in time has barely passed since Texas Commerce Bank officers wore "The Uniform" dark suit, white shirt and boring tie.
The quintessential pinstripe bank went through a stretch where conservative and formal garb were decreed, all the way down to pointers on proper positioning of the logo-bearing lapel pin.
But mergers and a change in top management have altered the attire attitude at the once-ultra-conservative Houston bank, which last week went full-time casual.
Another local blueblood bastion that has gone to constant casual is huge law firm Vinson-& Elkins. And legal rival Fulbright & Jaworski might follow suit.
The old guard is getting a new dress code. This emerging trend of dressing down is the next shoe to drop after the Friday-only casual kick took hold in the 1990s.
