Ten million times as powerful as the sun, the "Pistol Star" was recently discovered in the midst of the Milky Way, challenging popular science about star formation. In Amherst, N.H., the stellar discovery was inspiration for the naming of a software company.
Tom Hoey says PistolStar's significance correlates with his company's "vision to alter and challenge traditional approaches to resolving specific technological problems." In particular, he and his team of 10 have been in the IBM Lotus middleware solutions market, developing and marketing software for collaborations, password management, security and desktop administration.
And just last week they announced anew product, Facet IM Solutions, shopping it around to analysts at both Forrester and Yankee.
Hoey is no newcomer. He punched his ticket at Digital Equipment Corp. and later at Iris Associates (an IBM Lotus subsidiary) as a software developer for a combined 20 years.
