Placentia can now boast of two treasures -- Olympic gold medal winner Janet Evans and Mrs. Fries vending machines.
Costing $9,000 a unit, 15 Canadian-manufactured french fry vending machines recently have arrived at the warehouse/office facility of Mrs. Fries.
While the start-up company currently has only four people on its staff, Marilyn Lindberg, president of the newly formed company, said 10 of the 15 machines already have assigned locations.
With exclusive rights to the "mini-kitchen," as Lindberg and her associates call it, Vice President of Operations Steven Rach is confident the machine will catch on with the American consumer.
Mrs. Fries is the sole Southern California distributor of the vending machine. Called "Mr. Crispy,"it is manufactured by Canadian Manoir Industries of Ontario, which also developed the automated fry maker, Rach said.
