INJECTION-MOLDING COMPOUNDER
An 800-ton MX clamping unit combined with a twin-screw extruder, creates versatile injection-molding compounders (IMCs). The IMC-technology can mold parts compounded from various raw components (blends) as well as those with fillers, reinforcements, and additives, in a single cycle. The twinscrew extruder directly integrates into the injectionmolding process. Materials melt in the extruder and then mix with glass fibers, fillers, or additives. The melt moves into the shot-pot injector then into the mold. The compounding process is said to be particularly gentle, so high-filler loadings and long fibers can be molded. Dry-cycle times are reportedly only 70% as long as on previous IMCs. Visit NPE 2006 Booth #2102 for more information.

MEDICAL PARTS GET A COLORFUL FACELIFT
A new collection of colors and special effects for medical devices meet the requirements of the FDA-modified ISO 10933, Part 1, tests for biocompatibility and will work with Makrolon medical-grade polycarbonates and Bayblend polycarbonate/ABS blends. The Fantasia family of colors are compounded resins and include six opaque white options varying from cool to warmer tones, along with three opaque blues in light, medium, and dark hues. Other colors include aqua and dark blue, opaque teal, transparent gray, yellow, orange, red, green, and violet. Colors and effects in the resin family that don't meet biocompatibility requirements are options for housings and other components that don't touch patients. For more information visit NPE 2006 Booth #1676.

COLOR CONCENTRATES
Granular E-Z Color concentrates reportedly lower molding costs and disperse more easily than alternative pelletized concentrates, produce 100% color development, and are easier to clean and handle than their dry-color or pure-pigment counterparts. The highly loaded concentrates have let down ratios of 400:1 or greater depending on application. Visit NPE 2006 Booth #5139-R for more information.
