Worth Ave. Group targets the individual market for insuring laptops, iPhones, iPads and smart phones.
As wireless mobile devices become the tool of choice for a generation of hand-held technology users, the idea of building an insurance program one device at a time has grown less palatable.
At least that's the way Worth Ave. Group's Aaron Cooper views the market space. Then again, his company has the distinct advantage of having an established presence in a rapidly growing segment.
"If we had to start the program now, we would go in a different direction," said Cooper, director of marketing and business development for the Stillwater, Okla.-based agency. "It's been a good program, but we have worked at it for many years."
Insuring cell phones, smart phones, laptops, iPhones and now even iPads on an individual basis has developed into the agency's core focus. Worth Ave. Group was spawned from National Student Services Inc., founded in 1971, which has focused on insuring personal property for college students.
As the laptop became more prevalent in academic circles with schools making bulk purchases, NSSI's interest in insuring those devices followed- with the help of its underwriting partner, the Hanover Insurance Group.
