Las Vegas - 3Dfx Interactive Inc. has jumped into the OEM marketplace with Voodoo Rush, a chip set that pairs its top-tier 3-D graphics acceleration with a host of compatible 2-D accelerators.
The two-chip Voodoo Rush is supported by Alliance Semiconductor, Macronix America Inc., Media Reality Technologies, and Trident Microsystems Inc., which have designed or will introduce products that can process 2-D graphics information across the Voodoo Rush Interface, a 64-bit bus connected to a stripped-down Voodoo Graphics chip.
Traditionally, 3Dfx has marketed its 3-D-only products to add-on-card vendors, which have depended on a user's existing 2-D or VGA-only card for the basic graphics acceleration without which a PC could not function. By incorporating VGA/2-D graphics support, 3Dfx and its...
