The PowerLook 30-bit color scanner represents the latest entry by Umax Technologies Inc. into the midrange desktop scanner market. The PowerLook maintains the most popular features of Umax's 1200SE, including single-pass color scanning, fast preview and scanning speeds, and a resolution of 600 by 1,200 dots per inch (dpi). The system uses hardware interpolation to increase the resolution to 1,200 by 1,200 dpi and software interpolation to increase it to 2,400 by 2,400 dpi.
The PowerLook is equipped with a charge-couple light sensing device that increases the dynamic range of the scanner to 3.0, a significant advance for desktop scanners. Previously, only expensive drum scanners could provide this much tonal range.
