With rat numbers in Britain now standing at 60 million - the same as the human population - and rats growing increasingly resistant to poisons, pest control experts are doing their best to persuade industry that their chemical solutions are really worthwhile.
"We use both liquid and solid baits and although it's harder than it used to be to kill rats, the prize skill is placing the poison correctly," says Mark Poole, an area manager with pest control expert Dyno-Kil.
