Two Georgians who made armed, racial threats at a black child's birthday party have been sentenced to prison on felony charges including making terroristic threats and violating Georgia's street gang act, the Associated Press reports.
Jose Torres, 26, was sentenced to 13 years in prison and 25-year-old Kayla Norton was sentenced to six years in prison, according to the AP. Norton was convicted of one count of making terroristic threats and one count of violating the state's street gang act, while Torres was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for pointing a shotgun during the incident, in addition to the same two charges as Norton.
The convictions and sentences come out of an incident in July 2015 when, according to a statement by the Douglas County District Attorney's Office, Torres, Norton and a group of others driving in a convoy together to promote the Confederate flag passed the child's party in their trucks before parking in front of the house, at which point a portion of them exited the...
