Procom Technology, Inc., (Irvine, California), claims its new NetFORCE 1700 appliance has the highest storage density, best performance and, at 2.4 cents/MB for 1.8 TB of managed storage, the lowest cost per megabyte of any product in its class in the mid-range NAS marketplace. It achieves 4054 ops/sec and 0.89ms overall response time and can be scaled from 540 GB to 1.8 TB for RAID-5 data protection. Enterprise-class management features include a journaling file system to ensure the safety, accuracy and consistency of data. Checkpoint support is said to enable immediate recovery of accidentally modified or deleted files without reverting to tape backups. Local and remote management is done through a browser-based interface. It also has NDMP support to facilitate backup operations; all of which make it the ideal solution for a variety of storage-intensive applications such as CAD, imaging, E-mail, Web pages, databases, file sharing and data repository. It includes a battery backup for RAID cache, fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet network connection, hot swap drives, Intel PIII architecture, embedded monitoring of operating environment to ensure non-stop performance and three power-sharing, hot-swap, auto-sensing power supplies.
