Altman lighting is about a lot of things. Of course, the 50year-old lighting business is about making money. "Don't be mistaken, we're here to make money," said company president Robert Altman. But it is also about continuing the traditions started by Altman's father, and creating challenges for Altman's children. "We want to make a difference."
The company will be honored as Family Business of the Year at the Yonkers 2004 Business Week award ceremony April 29.
The company was incorporated in 1953 by Altman's parents, Charles and Alice, although it existed for some time before that.
He said lie started working for the company at the. age of seven. "I've done just about every job in the shop," Altman said.
"I guess you could say I've been brainwashed."
The company had become known for making quality lights for theatrical productions.
