RALEIGH - As a young man, Banks Hunter always thought he'd be in a different profession besides commercial real estate. The son of a dentist, Hunter grew up in Raleigh assuming he would follow in his father's footsteps.
"I went to Carolina and majored in biology," Hunter says. "I was planning on going to dental school."
But after graduating from UNC in 1978, Hunter had a change of heart He discovered that he had an emerging interest in sales and more importantly, a knack for the field. It wasn't long before his plan to attend dental school was history and his career in real estate had begun.
Hunter went to work for long-time Raleigh real estate developer Zack Bacon in 1979, Early in his career, one of his projects involved the conversion of Cameron Village Apartments into condominiums. He then spent several years working for Lincoln Developers, now Parker-Lincoln.
In 1989, he started his own company, Hunter & Associates, specializing in investment sales and retail leasing, management and sales.
