The ring leader, the Pied Piper, call him what you will, but this company owner is presently "wearing a lot of hats." Darrell MacLean, of Burlington, ON has been busy running his business, MacLean Media Systems, for the past three years.
It is a small audio/visual systems company that consists of six people. "We've got the expertise to do design/build arrangements and that's what we do most of the time." At MacLean Media Systems they do projects that involve a lot of control systems that run audio systems, video systems, museums, automated boardrooms, auditoriums, etc. "We call ourselves an integrator because that sort of sums up what we do. We take all these dissimilar systems and make them behave as one." He feels they seem to be carving out a niche for themselves doing specialty design/build things. "We tend to only do one job at a time so we can put the whole team on one project and handle all the details and make sure it is done from beginning to end, and everything is good."
Running a small business keeps MacLean worrying about all the business matters. Marketing, promotion, pricing jobs, finding jobs and once they get them, taking the lead on the system design and the layout of framework and looking at the client's priorities and needs. "There's not enough hours in one day."
