Music has always been a major part of John Klepko's life. "I've always seemed to have positive feedback about my playing." Not only is he a sound engineer and producer, but his musical background led this Montreal native to be an Assistant Professor of Sound Recording.
Klepko gained his knowledge in this field through his extensive education. He earned a music degree from Concordia University. "From there I heard about a sound recording program at McGill University and started to pursue that." While studying at McGill he was building experience working freelance and part time. He did a lot of work for Just For Laughs comedy festival, producing radio shows with such people as Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Norm Macdonald and Drew Carey. He worked at Lucasfilm's Skywalker Sound for two summers in California. He also edited classical recordings for major labels at Classic Sound in New York City.
"Then an opening came up for teaching, which I really didn't set out to do, but I remember telling a classmate at the time, 'This would be really cool if I could teach this course.' Then somehow it ended up being that way."
For the past nine years, Klepko has been teaching at McGill University in the Sound Recording program. He also teaches at Concordia University in the department of music, and has been doing so since 1993. "It gives me an opportunity to...
