By Carolyn A. April IN A DEFENSIVE move to compete against Microsoft Corp.'s handheld strategy, Psion Software Plc. will release next month an objectoriented development environment for hand-held applications that is compatible with Visual Basic.
The London-based company unveiled last week Object-based Visual Application Language (OVAL), a development environment for Psion's EPOC/16 personal digital assistant (PDA) OS,which it began licensing in July. (See "Interest grows in Psion's EPOC OS for PDAs,"July 29, page 53.)
