Burlingame, Calif. Novell is working on a 64-bit implementation of NetWare services that should offer users faster performance than the current 32-bit NetWare operating system.
"Our intent is to move our services onto an operating system kernel that takes advantage of the 64-bit architecture," said Steve Markman, Novell's executive vice president and general manager. The kernel is likely to be a variant of the Unix operating system, in the same way that Microsoft's Windows NT can be considered a variant of Unix, Markman said.
