Geneva - Positioning his company as a global wireless leader with multimode third-generation solutions, Irwin Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of Qualcomm Inc., told the ITU Telecom World 2003 conference here last month that "3G is off to a strong start with cdma2000 technology, already with 62 million users, and W-CDMA is starting up now."
Qualcomm's multimode wideband codedivision multiple access, GSM and GPRS chip, which has gone through laboratory and field testing over the past 18 months, will be joined in the company's product line by a separate 802.11b chip now being developed to handle Wi-Fi digital signal processing, Jacobs disclosed.
