PLEASANT HILLS - A laser technology company is on track to double its sales this year by targeting energy companies looking to comply with tighter environmental regulations.
Quantapoint Inc. makes lasers that quickly take three-dimensional measurements of rooms and industrial facilities, as well as software that turns those measurements into precise architectural drawings.
CEO Eric Hoffman would not disclose specific sales figures, but said the company's products have become increasingly popular with industrial clients, especially in the petroleum market.
In 1999, the firm began using its three-dimensional laser technology to scan buildings and rooms creating illustrations that architects, engineers and contractors use during renovations or additions. Industrial clients, such as oil and gas companies, are now putting the technology to use as they face tightened environmental regulations that mandate renovations on oil drilling rigs and refineries.
Traditionally, architects and engineers hired someone to take hundreds of measurements by hand.
