For some reason, plumbing issues tend to scare people. Many believe tinkering with faucets, sinks or toilets might turn a small problem into a major fiasco. Others believe a twist here and a turn there with some pliers or a wrench will result in thousands of gallons of water gushing out of the fixture.
However, there is really no reason for these concerns. With some simple precautions-like making sure the water is turned off before you begin-hotel housekeepers and others working in a hotel property can fix a variety of plumbing-related issues quickly and relatively easily. This not only saves money-some plumbers now charge upwards of $75 per hour-but also time. Many problems, as we shall see, can be fixed in just minutes.
Below are some common plumbing-related problems encountered in hotel properties, along with ways to address and correct them.
Toilet Gurgles
Since the subhead for this article is Let's Hear It for Toilet Gurgles, we probably should start with this. The gurgle sound is the final sound you hear when a toilet is working properly. The water refills the bowl and the tank, and when complete, it gurgles. However, when there is no gurgle, it means you have a run-on toilet-the water keeps running and running.
