Rank Xerox has its new 1,400-job Technical Centre located at Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The centre is a considerable testament to the high-tech merits of Hertfordshire as it carries out the company's entire international technical activities.
The monolithic US photocopier company is also in the process of developing the prime site it currently occupies. When it opens in April 1994, a new 200,000 sq ft six-building configuration will house over 1,000 people. According to Managing Director Guy Rabbat, "I believe it will be one of the largest investments in south-east England".
The development, which includes three new buildings totalling 120,000 sq ft, will provide high quality space with increased flexibility and efficiency thus reducing running costs. Although Rabbat is guarded about the exact cost of the project, it represents an enormous financial commitment to high-tech Hertfordshire--where the company has been located for around 30 years.
