Rapid7 LLC may still be a small company, with 20 employees and a revenue goal of $1.2 million for 2004, but the track records of the executive team bode well for the company.
Rapid7 was founded in 2001 by serial entrepreneurs Alan Matthews and John Devine. The duo previously formed technology consulting firm Bond Technologies in 1991 and grew that company to $50 million.
By 1994, Matthews and Devine had established Percussion Software, now a $25 million company, and Stride & Associates, an $80 million technology placement firm.
Today the entrepreneurs are at the helm of vulnerability and risk management software vendor Rapid7, which is set to unveil Nov. 15 an upgrade of its enterprise vulnerability assessment software NeXpose.
The company is hanging its hat on the promise of no false positives for vulnerabilities, a problem that plagues IT organizations and one for which analysts argue there is no failsafe cure.
