Dogged by higher manufacturing costs which contributed to a sizable loss last year, RB&W Corp. plans to cut back on the array of nuts, bolts and screws it makes.
"We want to concentrate on a more narrow base of products," said Boyd O. Murdock, vice president, controller and secretary of Mentor-based RB&W. "Developing niches is the way to go because the days of the supermarket approach are past."
Mr. Murdock said RB&W makes as many as 2,000 types of fasteners in an average year. Central to RB&W's objective of trimming product lines is providing technical support for customers which want to standardize their fastener requirements, according to the company's 1987 annual report.
