Thomson will introduce to dealers in May the industry's first Dolby Digital-ready receiver for the Digital Satellite System (DSS). Dave Spomer, Thomson DSS product management VP, said the company will unveil next month the RCA DS5451, a new version of its DS5450 third-generation step-up IRD.
The upgrade drops the wideband dataport and adds a newly implemented optical Sony/Philips Digital Interface (S/PDIF) jack. The connection will enable the receiver to send Dolby Digital (aka AC-3) surround sound signals onto an A/V receiver or surround sound processor equipped with an AC3 signal decoder.
