Red Wing Payroll from Red Wing Software offers live and after-the-fact payroll support for accountants representing multiple clients or can be used directly by small and mid-sized businesses. The stand-alone system can integrate with Red Wing's accounting applications, which include solutions for agricultural and small business concerns, as well as for municipalities. The base package of Red Wing Payroll costs about $795 for a single-user. Additional users cost $295; the Direct Deposit module costs $395; and optional state reporting is an additional $199 for one company or $399 for multiple companies.
EASE-OF-USE/DATA ENTRY
Red Wing Payroll opens to a double window format, with the background master window offering basic system utilities, including pull-down menus for File, Tools, Window and access to the system's help utility. A smaller window houses the Main Menu, which offers access to primary features of the program as well as the System Manager. Selection of the Payroll option provides additional task-specific menu options for entering time, writing checks, reporting, closing periods and other functions. Selection of one of these items provides further options specific to that task. The Time Entry function, for instance, allows the user to select from tasks such as copying employee time from another location, entering time manually, adjustments and a Print Worksheet. The system lists these tasks in the order they are most commonly used. Additional buttons enable the user to open a new company/ client, download or review tax tables, or view system information.
Most data-entry tasks are performed in the Time Entry function, although new company and employee setup data-entry screens also follow a similar interface that uses tabbed screens. New employees can be entered from scratch or an existing employee...
