San Jose, Calif.-based Resonext Communications has signed a three- year agreement with Belgian-based IMEC to license IMEC's orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology for use in wireless local area network (LAN) products using the 5 GHz band. Resonext and IMEC officials declined to disclose the value of the agreement.
Robert Fan, vice president of marketing at Resonext, tells Wireless Insider that despite the downturn in the telecom market as a whole, the wireless LAN market is "very healthy." He says that demand for wireless LAN products has been growing among private wireless users, as well as small and medium size businesses and home office users.
Fan says that his company plans to market its modems to private wireless users, such as warehouses, hospitals, car rental firms and others. These companies will continue to deploy wireless LAN technology into the future and "they are certainly a target market for our products."
