GREELEY - Collecting and recycling paper is nothing new. But one company has found ways to take recycling one step further.
Resourceful Paper Inc., located in Greeley, is a paper-converting and animal-bedding-company.
The business was first created for the Boys Club of Greeley, said Galen Hill, owmer and president of Resourceful Paper. Pete Zimmerman, a former member of the board of directors of the Boys Club, started the company to raise money for the club.
"They started by collecting newspapers," Hill said. "It ended up becoming big."
At first the recycling effort created volunteer jobs to help with the collection. When the chore started getting to be too much, however, the volunteers would not show up.
"They tried to hire somebody to run it but it didn't work," Hill said. "Pete Zimmerman suggested that I should buy it and I just jumped in head first."
Hill bought Resourceful Paper Inc. in 1982. He continued to collect newspapers but also decided to get into the paperconversion business.
For its paper-conversion operation, rolls of unused paper are gathered from nearby newspapers such as The Greeley Tribune and The Denver Post, then run through a paper sheeter. The machine cuts the paper into 24-inch by 30-inch pieces. These pieces are then packaged into 50-pound bundles.
