A GNC franchisee is preparing to dispute the results of a recent election of representatives to GNC Inc.'s National Advisory Council, an elective body established by the company to deliberate on corporate policies.
Irfan Shami, a GNC franchisee based in South Carolina, alleges that GNC inaccurately counted the ballots costing him his bid for reelection as a franchisee representative on the eight-member council. The council is comprised of six elected franchisees and two company representatives.
Last week, GNC officials announced the result to franchisees on the, company's intranet site. The company declared Mr. Shami's opponent, Nelson Fleming, a GNC franchisee and a former GNC corporate employee, the winner. The election, the results of which have yet to be verified, is for the council seat representing the company's division two, a regional territory representing most of the Southern states, ranging from South Carolina through Texas.
