Anyone who has used Flash over the last few years may think that the latest incarnation is only a small step up from the previous ones, and in some respects it is. However, there are some pretty powerful extra features packed into this latest edition and it seems to try to do things slightly differently.
This guide helps the user to become more proficient with the newer aspects of the application and assumes a working knowledge of one of the more recent previous releases. You should also be familiar with ActionScript, although the book is pretty good at guiding the reader gently through this aspect of the application.
The introduction stresses that the book focusses on the design aspects of Flash as opposed to simply creating finished projects. Although it doesn't directly stipulate it, this is most likely based on the belief that the 'development' aspect will grow from an understanding of what the application can do. From experience I would say that this is true, and the focus of the book appears from the outset to have been cleverly devised.
