He may have blinded us with science in the 1980s, but these days Thomas Dolby Robertson is trying to open our eyes, and ears, to a wider range of ringtones.
Robertson, whose techno-pop hit She Blinded Me With Science emerged from his 1982 album prophetically titled "The Golden Age of Wireless," is now a wireless entrepreneur.
Robertson's passion for fusing music and technology led him from creating hits for EMI Records to generating great sounds for Web sites and electronic games at his own company, Beatnik. From there, it wasn't much of a leap to begin applying his techno-sound to wireless ringtones, which could improve the ordinary monophonic tones to a richer polyphonic experience over MMS phones, using a software-based ringtone creation engine.
