A local General Motors Corp. supervisor whose wife died from hepatitis is suing the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. claiming that he, his wife and other GM employees contracted the disease at the Ritz hotel in Cancun, Mexico, in June 2000.
Benjamin LaRue, a supervisor at a metro area independent General Motors dealership, claims in a federal lawsuit that his wife, Sharilyn, came down with the viral liver disease after a General Motors employee appreciation trip to the beachfront luxury hotel, court documents show.
Sharilyn LaRue died a little more than a month after the vacation, in July 2000, attorneys representing LaRue said.
Several other Southeastern General Motors employees who came down with the disease after the vacation also are suing Ritz-Carlton. They, like LaRue, say contaminated food and drink served by the Cancun Ritz caused their illnesses.
