Schott Applied Power Corp. of Rocklin has appointed a new president and plans to form a joint venture with a German manufacturer of photovoltaic equipment.
Schott Applied Power is one of the largest U.S. distributors of solarpower gear. In the middle of March, the company announced that the board of directors had named director Tom Starrs as president. He replaces Sam Vanderhoof, who said he resigned and would keep consulting with the company on special projects.
Then the Rocklin company's parent, Schott Glas of Mainz, Germany, signed a letter of intent with RWE Solutions AG of Frankfurt, Germany, to merge their solarpower businesses. RWE owns the solarcell manufacturer ASE Americas Inc. of Billerica, Mass.
