The Paterson, NJ., Rohm and Haas plant will close at the end of the year."This decision was a very difficult one for the company," Carol Eicher, business director of the company's organic specialties business, said. "However, a careful analysis of the dyes and markers business environment, coupled with the substantial capital investment required to continue manufacturing at Paterson, led us to the realization that closure of the site is the only viable business option." The factors leading to the closure were the increasing competition, limited growth potential, eroding prices, and the significant capital expenditures necessary to bring the facility into good manufacturing standards. Ninety positions will be affected by the decision and employees will be offered severance benefits packages and outplacement services will be provided.
