GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is rumoured to be in talks with Bayer about a bid for the German company's pharmaceutical business.
The division, noted for the discovery of aspirin, is estimated to be worth $15 billion (#10.4bn). GSK is believed to be one of the two pharmaceutical companies referred to by Dr Manfred Schneider, Bayer's chairman of the board of management, last week.
