A Chicago-based company has quietly acquired a San Antonio ambulatory surgery center near the South Texas Medical Center.
Officials with National Surgical Care have confirmed that they have acquired a controlling interest in the Specialty Surgery and Pain Center on Datapoint Drive. They also say they hope to expand their presence in the Alamo City.
In addition to acquiring the San Antonio surgery center from Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America (ASCOA), National Surgical Care has acquired a pair of similar centers elsewhere one in Florida and another in Maryland. National Surgical Care Senior Vice President Rick Pence says the trio of acquisitions are the first for the company, which was officially launched in September 2002.
National Surgical Care, which also has operations in Plano, Texas, is looking to partner with physicians across the country in acquiring, developing and managing free-standing ambulatory surgery centers. Terms of the recent deals were not disclosed, and limited information on the company's Web site does not include the names of the three centers or even the cities in which they are located.
